Fifteen Years of Climate Date at a Glance

Using graphs to browse data

How do you browse easily through 15 years worth of daily rainfall and temperature data? Many websites forces you to select from a series of drop-down selections on a data-entry form, but surely you should be able to see the data and choose where to drill down visually!

This part of the Causeway site is generated entirely automatically with the RainView function in the RainVML workspace - it is both an illustration of the technique and an interesting collection of data in its own right. Have a look at the autumn rainfall in 2000 to see why the UK suffered the worst flooding for 50 years in late October and early November.

View as images or as vector graphics

If you have IE5 with the VML option installed, you will be able to view the charts entirely as in-line vector graphics which is faster and prints much better. If you have the SVG viewer (it comes with the Acrobat Reader 5 installation) try the SVG version which is definitely the best looking! Otherwise you should view the charts as images - the selection process is just the same but of course it will run rather more slowly.

If you would like help on building your own site using RainPro and VML or SVG, please give us a call!
