This function is designed for simplicity and speed. It expects to be able to format a column of data as a single object, so the majority of properties apply to columns only. Cell data may be clipped or spilled into the following column – there is no option to wrap the data and extend the cell vertically. Tables which are too wide for the frame run downwards to the end of the first set of columns, then move back to the top of the data to generate the next set of columns, and so on. This is the opposite behavious from leaf.table.Spread which walks across the columns.

To print a simple columnar report from a matrix of data:

leaf.table.List matrix

All the normal table settings apply, but at the column level only, except for alignment, shading and ŒFMT which may be specified by cell. Please use leaf.table.Spread if you need more complex presentation.

Setting ‘one-off’ properties
The optional left argument can set any of emphasis,colour etc. passed as a vector of property-value pairs. The values may only be numeric codes here, and would generally have been computed from the data matrix. For example ...

('emph' emp)('col' clr) leaf.table.List mat

The properties you may include here are:

• Emphasis – selective bold/italic etc by column
• Colour – text colour by column as palette index or RGB composite
• BCol – cell background colour (may be set by cell)
• Align – column alignment (0,1,2)
• Clip – clipping rules (0-1)
• VGrid – vertical grid lines
• HGrid – horizontal grid lines (below each row)

The property values will normally be a vector matching the number of columns. However the cell background may be set as a matrix, and the horizontal grid lines should be given as a vector matching the number of rows in the data.
