Features Added in 1999 Releases
Some of the new features added to Release 4.3d of RainPro are:
- High-colour support. Allows you to use hex strings such as
ch.Set ('colour' '#9DC806,#78598D') (lime and mauve) wherever a colour name is normally given. This generates much better looking charts if the output target is a web site, using GIF or PNG output.
- Key frames the Key Box property gives you complete control over key position and layout
- Page labels the Page Label property is a convenient place to label the current values for any hidden dimensions
- Data Window Window property simplifies the plotting of timeseries with switchover dates (actual/forecast)
ch.Bar accepts Stacked style as synonym for relative, cbar.
Other capabilities included for the first time in Release 4.4 are:
- Support for PNG and GIF format images. Matching imagemap allows web-based graphics to have full drill-down capability as any datapoint can make a jump to a URL. Rain now substitutes solid pastel colours for the first 7 patterns, mixing in an appropriate proportion of white; this looks a little better on high-colour monitors and compresses much better to keep the image size as small as possible.
- Multiple box-whisker plots for datasets with 2 category axes. As seen at APL99!
- Custom repeat patterns for dashed lines. Better (and faster) rendering of dashed lines where the repeat pattern is quite long compared to the interval between data points.
- Angled X-axis labels
- Vector graphics support for IE5 including drill-down and hot-links from any text. Vector support for non-Microsoft environments with a freely-available Java applet.
- Automatic trellis generation for small multiples and piecharts
- Support for custom fill patterns and custom markers
- Polar charts added as a standard chart type.
There are numerous other small improvements and bug fixes check the Release variable in the RainPro workspace for full details.
